Grand Edition C-Class celebrates the 50,000th car made by Mercedes-Benz India
Mercedes-Benz India has launched yet another limited edition of the C-Class. The new car receives the moniker ‘Grand Edition’ and has been made to celebrate the 50,000th car manufactured by the Pune based company. The ‘Grand Edition’ is available with a host of additional features that differentiates it from a regular C-Class. For starters, the 2014 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Grand Edition comes standard with the AMG styling kit. This includes the front and rear bumpers, side skirts and AMG centre caps on standard 17-inch wheels. The Grand Edition also receives a special aluminium finish centre grille with a large Mercedes-Benz logo dominating it. The 2014 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Grand Edition also gets the panoramic roof option as a standard fitment. The Grand Edition also gets a set of ‘GRAND EDITION’ badges on the front fenders. On the insides, the 2014 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Grand Edition isn’t much different from the standard car.
The attention to detail and quality of materials is as always top notch and exude a typical Mercedes-Benz feel to them. The 2014 Mercedes-Benz Grand Edition is available in both petrol and diesel variants. The diesel powered C220 CDi produces 170PS of peak power and 400Nm of peak torque whereas the C200 CGi produces 186PS and 285Nm of peak power and torque. The diesel Mercedes-Benz C220 CDi ‘Grand Edition’ is priced at Rs 39.61 lakh whereas the petrol Mercedes-Benz C200 CGi ‘Grand Edition’ is priced cheaper at Rs 36.81 lakh, ex-showroom, Mumbai.

Mercedes-Benz India has introduced the 2014 C-Class Grand Edition to commemorate an important landmark of being the first luxury carmaker of reaching 50,000 units. Mercedes-Benz India currently have production capabilities of about 10,000 units a year. They reached the 20000 cars produced figure in 2008 followed by 30,000 in December 2011. In a little over two years, Mercedes-Benz India has crossed the crucial ‘half-lakh’ or 50,000 cars produced figure. About 38,000 cars of the 50,000 produced so far have been built at the current Mercedes-Benz India plant at Chakan whereas the rest were built at the old Mercedes factory at Tata Motors in Pimpri. The Pimpri plant is now being used to make the Jaguar XF 2.2 diesel and the Land Rover Freelander 2
